Peel Regional Police press releases and community events information.Peel - The Peel Regional Police Service is announcing the deployment of the annual Bicycle Unit. The Bicycle Unit has been successful in the past, and helps to increase officer visibility and interaction with the community. Last year, the Police Services Board approved a budget increase for this unit, allowing its strength to be bolstered from six to eight officers per division.
On Sunday, April 20, the Bicycle Unit will be deployed for the 2008 season at the Khalsa Day Parade in Brampton.
Bicycle Unit officers are relied upon to conduct patrols of the Region's numerous parks and bike paths, in addition to supplementing officers on foot for large-scale events, such as parades. Bike officers are able to travel through otherwise inaccessible areas and allows for fast response times. These officers have been very successful in responding to complaints of lawless public behaviour and are an integral part in achieving the Peel Regional Police's vision of "A Safer Community".
In addition, the Bicycle Unit officers will be sporting dark coloured shirts to correspond with the Peel Regional Police's new look initiative. The Bicycle Unit's shirts take advantage of high-tech moisture repellent materials designed to keep the officers cool and dry.
