Peel - Staff, students and alumni from Terry Fox, Eastbourne Drive and Silverthorn Public Schools will commemorate 25, 40 and 50 years of service, dedication and commitment respectively, during the month of April.

Terry Fox was founded in 1982 to honour its Canadian namesake. To commemorate this anniversary, celebratory events will include a community gallery to showcase historical events as well as current activities, speeches and the unveiling of a school mural as a lasting tribute to the legacy of Terry Fox at the school. Staff, students and alumni members are also invited to the school's official 25th anniversary celebration on April 16.

"This anniversary marks a significant milestone in our school's history," says David Abela, principal at Terry Fox. "At this celebration, former staff and students, as well as the Terry Fox school community, will have the opportunity to celebrate our rich history while viewing historical memorabilia that connect with our current learning practices."

Silverthorn, founded in 1958, will celebrate with several events. An anniversary alumni open house on April 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event includes classroom visits, a 'Meet & Greet' coffee house and displays of school and student memorabilia. Commemorative T–shirt will be on sale. Former staff, students and parents of Silverthorn are invited to the event.

"This is a great way to celebrate our history and to welcome our community into the school," says Erika Fetzer, principal at Silverthorn. "Not only are we celebrating 50 years of excellence in education, but we are honouring all of our students and staff,  past and present. Of course, we'll be hosting our annual Silverthorn birthday celebration barbeque this June. Silverthorn is dedicated to student success and we want to see that dedication continue to grow and thrive for many years to come."

Eastbourne Drive will celebrate its 40th anniversary on April 21 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This will be followed by planting an anniversary garden, singing 'A Song of Peace' and sharing cake. Celebrations will continue throughout the week, including assemblies and the uncovering of the time capsule.
