Brampton - Peel Regional Council recognized Peel Regional Paramedics Patrick Chatelain and Caitlin Wenckstern for helping several young men involved in a serious accident on Hwy. 401 during the early hours of April 7.
The two paramedics were off-duty and on their way home when they came across the crash. The accident involved seven young men – four of whom were ejected from the minivan and severely injured.
"We're trained to act quickly and treating patients is second nature to us whether we're on or off-duty," said Peel Regional Paramedic Caitlin Wenckstern. "The attention we've received is overwhelming but your recognition is appreciated."
Along with two other off-duty paramedics and an off-duty police officer, Patrick and Caitlin responded quickly to keep the four badly injured young men alive while emergency crews made their way to the scene.
"In an emergency, every second counts, said Director of Peel Regional Paramedic Services Peter Dundas. "Patrick and Caitlin's actions are another example of the invaluable life-saving skills paramedics provide to the community in an emergency."
The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area.
