  EARTH HOUR – MARCH 29, 8-9 P.M.

Brampton - On Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m. things may look a little dark in Peel Region. That's because the Region of Peel will be joining hundreds of other municipalities around the world in support of Earth Hour – a World Wildlife Fund initiative for residents, businesses and governments to turn out the lights between 8 and 9 p.m. to send a powerful message that it's possible to take action on global warming.

"I am pleased that Peel is taking part in this important world event," says Steve Hall, Director of Corporate Energy at the Region of Peel.  "By making such a small sacrifice, we are sending a strong visual message that Peel is committed to the challenge of finding sustainable and responsible ways to manage our energy demands."

Where safe and appropriate, Regional facilities will participate in Earth Hour. Residents are encouraged to participate and take a stand against global warming.  To register or to learn more visit www.earthhour.org.

On April 1 and 2, the Region of Peel will host its fourth annual conference on energy management and environmental sustainability, Energy Matters 2008 at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel in Mississauga. Each year, participants gather from around the world to learn about the newest opportunities in sustainable energy strategies. To register or to learn more, visit www.energymatterssummit.ca.
