Brampton - On December 31, 2007 The Honourable George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, announced the appointment of Ken White as Supervisor for William Osler Health Centre. The Minister indicated that the appointment was made in order to restore public confidence in the health centre.

Ken White is the former CEO of Mississauga Trillium Health Centre. Around this same time last year, the Minister had appointed Mr. White as an investigator for William Osler Health Centre to help guide the organization through the opening of Brampton Civic. In this new supervisor role, Mr. White will now have the authority to make operational decisions.

The Minister acknowledged that both William Osler Health Centre's Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General Hospitals "are good hospitals" and cited their positive showing in the recently released Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio (HSMR) study. In addition, he praised the work of the Board of Directors and staff at the hospital while making commitments to restore community confidence, to ensure that staff feels valued and to help create a positive environment where staff and physicians will want to work.

In response to the announcement, Mr. White's first remarks were to congratulate the staff and physicians at WOHC for the successful opening of Brampton Civic Hospital. He noted that "Nothing great is built by one person or a few," and that he "has great confidence in the people at William Osler Health Centre" to meet the challenges ahead. Mr. While also indicated that he looks forward to working with the Board of Directors, the staff and the community to meet the objectives that have been outlined by the Minister.

The appointment is expected to last from six to nine months or beyond. More information on the role of the supervisor will be shared over the coming weeks.
