Brampton - It was with great sorrow that I learned of the tragic car accident that claimed the lives of Cynthia Dougherty and Maria Dalsass.
This terrible tragedy serves to remind us of the dangers on our highways. Reports suggest that street racing may have contributed to the fatalities involved with this accident.
Both the Federal and Provincial governments have recently brought in legislation which attaches harsh penalties for those caught engaging in this dangerous form of activity.
I have received several letters from families whose loved ones were injured or killed by street racers. Street racing is not about kids having fun. It's dangerous, it's reckless, and all too often ends in tragedy.
On behalf of the constituents of Brampton-Springdale, I would like to express my condolences to the Dougherty and Dalsass families. At this moment of tragedy and loss, you are in our thoughts and prayers.
