Canadian Blood Services is a national, not-for-profit charitable organization that manages the blood supply in all provinces and territories outside of Quebec and oversees the country's Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry. A dedicated team of about 4,800 staff and 17,000 volunteers enable us to operate 40 permanent collection sites and more than 20,000 donor clinics annually. Canadian Blood Services is a non-governmental organization, however the Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Health provide operational funding, and the federal government, through Health Canada, is responsible for regulating the blood system. Brampton - If you and your family can celebrate health and many other good things this Thanksgiving, Canadian Blood Services encourages you to express your gratitude by donating blood for cancer patients, accident victims, and many others who need medical treatments.
Patients who struggle to recover from illness and injury during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday depend on ordinary community members to make blood donations a regular part of their lives.
Caryna Wilding, clinic recruitment coordinator with Canadian Blood Services in Brampton says, "If anybody needs some inspiration to give blood, I can't think of a better time than the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving." She adds, "We can never be thankful enough for our health." Every donation of blood can save up to three lives.
"Hospital demand for blood products never slows down," says Ms. Wilding. "Yet, our blood inventories continue to be lower than they should be because Canadians often find it more difficult to make donations during the summer months." Canadian Blood Services is still trying to build up inventories of all blood products although the organization has extended blood clinic hours for weeks and sent out urgent appeals for Canadians to roll up their sleeves and donate.
If you would like to express your gratitude for your health and donate blood, please make an appointment by calling 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283).First time donors, ages 17 to 61, are always welcome.
