Pinball Clemons joins Habitat for Humanity Brampton, July 23, for launch of "Elliott House Heritage Build."

Relocation and rehabilitation of heritage farmhouse gives two families a new home in groundbreaking partnership.

Brampton, ON, July 18 /CNW/ - A three-way partnership between Habitat for Humanity Brampton, Metrus Development Inc. and the City of Brampton is breathing new life into an abandoned heritage 19th century farmhouse. The structure will be relocated and rehabilitated and two Brampton families will experience affordable home ownership for the first time.

The groundbreaking partnership is the first involving a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in North America. Metrus Development Inc. donated the heritage house and two lots for the relocation and the City of Brampton has provided ongoing support and technical assistance. Funding for the move is being provided by sponsors and community fundraising initiatives.

The circa 1861 Ontario gothic style farmhouse known as the "George Elliott House," after its original builder, will be relocated .5 kilometers north on Torbram Road to a new site the morning of July 23. A ceremonial launch takes place at 9:30 a.m. just prior to the move and will be attended by Toronto Argonaut coach Mike "Pinball" Clemons and other VIPs. Habitat volunteers will lead a three month rehabilitation program at the new site where the refurbished 360-ton heritage structure will be turned into a semi-detached house for two Brampton families. Plans include maintaining the building's historical integrity and constructing an addition.
