Dilpreet K. - resident of Brampton

Dilpreet K., a grade 11 high school student at St. Marguerite d'Youville, has been an amazing student leader. She is responsible for initiating and organizing the school's South Asian Heritage Month festivities and group since grade 10.

She began the South Asian group, now known as "SAF" (South Asian Fusion) in 2005, after dreaming of doing it for years before. She approached school Principal Dave Dolan in her first year at d'Youville, asking for permission to begin a group that would put together events to celebrate and showcase May as South Asian Heritage Month.

This year, the group had their first meeting in January and has been working on planning this past May's events for 5 months.

The group consists of about 60 students, all involved at different levels. However the amount of participants in the SAF Showcase at the end of the month was much greater, up to 80-90. Proceeds from the show will be donated to charity. Dilpreet also organized sales of foods and other South Asian items throughout the month. Dilpreet, who is on the announcements every morning pumping up the school for SAF's events, definitely deserves to be a Brampton Community Star of the Week!
