Walking In The Rain

By Simone B.

Notre Dame Secondary School
Brampton

Footsteps pitter-pattering on the ground,
In cue with each raindrop's sound.
The stormy clouds hovering high above,
Are no longer pearl white turtledoves.
Bright light flashes in the sky,
They tell me that the day is nigh.
Thundering crashes, slashing roars
Burn the insides of my sores.

With each single step I take,
Each reminds me of a smile faked.
What mask that covers o'er my face,
Destroys what had been left of grace.
Turmoil tousles in cue, in beat,
Truth's been rumbling 'neath my feet.
Salutations to the wind that blows,
That undeniable power from head to toe.
Sink each phrase within my bone,
Words I wish to call my own.

Sunny skies were never here,
Only portraits of one's inner fear.
Rainbows don't follow in this town,
This storm will never settle down.
For each time the rain begins to cease,
Here comes the clouds, the dark will increase.
And for each time the lightning dims,
Here comes the snarling thunderous hymns.
Where is the trident that'll cast its spell?
Where is the wand that will wish me well?

The destination is still far away,
This is just another game that I play.
Trickery's hidden up its sleeves,
This tempest; it will never leave.
Broken rules of thumb I bear,
Promises broken behind some solemn swears.
Undo the wrongs to make them rights;
To make day come, undo the nights.
Pacing through each hollow hall,
The walls are collapsing; they seem to fall.
Hold me tight and stop this squall,
This walking, please, don't let me stall.
