My other half

By Amanda T.

St. Marguerite d'Youville Secondary School
Brampton

Standing in a darkened corner,
Tears of blood running down my cheek,
I wonder how things came to be.

The pain I'm feeling won't go away,
I don't know how much more I can take.

The sound of your voice still rings in my ear,
And my heart freezes at the image of you here.
I can see your smile, your hands, your face,
It kills me to know, you're in a different place.

The beat of drums is like my heart calling your name,
As the music stops, it's just not the same.
It's not the same without you around,
To chase away the pain and leave no doubt.

To think that a few years ago,
You held me in your arms.
The only thing holding me now is the memory of you here,
And as the days slowly go by,
I can see you begin to leave.

A memory of you and me fades,
And I know by now things will never be the same.
No hope, no love, or a grinning smile.
Only a silhouette of something that once was,
Standing in a dark corner.
