2006-2007 Writing Project is a co-operative effort between the Dufferin-Peel Separate School Board (Brampton East, Caledon, Dufferin and Malton family of schools) and brampton.com. The project's goal is to encourage students to write about issues that affect our community through various forms of writing (poetry, short stories, essays, etc.). Waving goodbye in sorrow,
A piece of your past will be lost,
Not knowing a plan for the future,
Or knowing the price it will cost.
It seems he is only going away,
For a few months overseas,
But you would do anything to protect him,
And whisper, "God watch over him, please".
Realizing that he is not the only one,
To leave his family to fight,
You begin think about the enemy,
And the loved ones they're leaving tonight.
Or did you even consider,
The land crossed over enemy lines?
Families, houses, and children torn,
From hand grenades and land mines.
Then streams tears of sadness,
Feelings of anger and of hate,
Questions of why he is leaving,
Are now answered by a government debate.
Peace is not completely accomplished,
The heroes are never quite the same,
Does it take thousands of casualties,
To realize that war is not a game?
