Large Canadian health system chooses Picis for emergency department, critical care and total perioperative automation suite

Wakefiled, Mass. 16 May 2007 - Picis, Inc., an established provider of high-acuity care information systems, today announced that William Osler Health Centre (WOHC), one of the largest healthcare organizations in Ontario, has purchased the complete Picis CareSuite software suite, providing a comprehensive, end-to-end clinical information system to automate all of WOHC's high-acuity areas, including all their emergency departments, operating rooms and intensive care units. Serving nearly one million area residents, WOHC is comprised of three separate hospitals in the Toronto-metro region. As part of the first deployment under this agreement, Etobicoke General Hospital recently deployed and went live with ED PulseCheck®, Picis' emergency department information system.

"The high-acuity and high-volume areas of the hospital are where the application of technology can have a huge impact both in care and cost," said Judy Middleton, CIO at William Osler Health Centre. "Our previous experience using Picis technology, combined with the company's solid reputation in high-acuity systems, provided the confidence to select Picis' full automation suite. We believe that integrating technology with patient care is a core aspect of William Osler's ability to provide better healthcare to our community."

"We believe that this agreement illustrates our expertise and product strength in the automation and transformation of the entire high-acuity arena. WOHC's selection process included an evaluation of all the major enterprise healthcare IT vendors as well as many single-department solutions," said Picis President and CEO Todd Cozzens. "Picis technology helps our customers to provide better patient care, and demonstrable return on their IT investment. With this full implementation of our entire suite of CareSuite applications, William Osler Health is creating a complete continuum of care in the most resource intense and costly areas of the institution."

Using Picis technology, WOHC plans to streamline the full continuum of high-acuity care processes, unifying and centralizing documentation and the capture of data from various medical and monitoring devices during the patient's hospital stay. Picis' multifacility, integrated software replaces an existing product in the health system's emergency departments and upgrades the surgical department with Picis' total perioperative automation solution. As part of the organization-wide enhancement efforts, WOHC is constructing a new state-of-the-art facility, Brampton Civic Hospital, renovating Etobicoke General Hospital, and redeveloping Peel Memorial Hospital, all of which will employ the Picis solutions.
