My thoughts drift through the desert of fear.

Who am I?
I am but a man,
A simple Pastor
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Am I to silence this injustice?
Embracing this dream would cause war.
A war I'm against, violence I hate.
I am just Martin Luther King Jr.

Is peace, that important?
Is it even conceivable?
I know it is and yet I fear
Taking a stand.

"I have a dream"
Black man, that is who I am.
Forever connected to this race.
Civil rights leader I am not.

If I take a stand there will be

Such fear I cannot face.
This dry desert of inconceivable thought is safe.

The Moses for my people...
Is this a legacy,
A future I want to lead?
Can my words, dreams, and thoughts climb to such high peaks?

I will Pray to my father, and abide under the shadow if his MIGHT.
Then I will step out into the dawn of a new day and,
Lead my people.

Because I am
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Poem by Chevonne C. - St. Marguerite d'Youville
