Brampton - On December 6, Chinguacousy Secondary School will officially launch its new breakfast program. The program will help ensure all students have access to a nutritious breakfast and get a healthy start to the school day.
"The breakfast program is an excellent opportunity to provide students with a healthy breakfast and essential nutrients needed to maximize their learning potential," says Carol Speers, principal at Chinguacousy."Research shows that students who eat well perform better in school. Those who don't get enough to eat are more tired, have a short attention span and don't learn to solve problems as well."
Student volunteers will prepare and serve nutritious breakfast items such as bagels, cereal, breakfast bars, fresh fruit, yogurt and juice. The cost of breakfast is fifty cents and students can select as many items as they wish from the menu.
The time students spend helping to prepare and serve breakfast can be used towards the 40 hours of community service that are required for graduation.
"The breakfast program is made possible through donations from the St. Louise Outreach Centre and Breakfast for Kids. Additional support is also provided by Great Canadian Bagel," says Lionel Klotz, vice-principal at Chinguacousy. "We couldn't run the program for our students without their support."
The official launch of the breakfast program takes place from 7 to 8 a.m. and will be attended by:
