Brampton - Brampton Safe City has presented Brampton Fire and Emergency Services a Local Heroes Community Partner Award for its instructional DVD - Is Your Child Safe and Secure? … Tips On Car Seats and Booster Seats.

Ontario legislation now requires all infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers and primary grade-age children to be buckled up in the appropriate child car seat or booster seat. The new DVD is 28 minutes in length and provides helpful tips for the selection, installation and safe use of child car seats and booster seats. The DVD was created with input from the Peel Car Seat Safety Committee and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Brampton Fire/Life Safety Education Centre educators Debbie Campbell, Denise Wallace and Tina Hickey received the award on Oct. 26 at the Brampton Safe City Gala held at the El Cavaliere Banquet Hall and Convention Centre in Brampton. The award recognizes the trio for "creating an amazing DVD to teach parents and caregivers about car seat safety … a tremendous contribution towards children's safety."

"This is the second award we have received for the instructional DVD," said Deputy Fire Chief Andy MacDonald." I am proud of the great work our team is achieving."

In addition to the Local Heroes Community Partner Award, the DVD received an Ontario Road Safety Award in September. Campbell, Wallace and Hickey were also recognized for their outstanding contribution and accomplishment in improving road safety in Ontario.

Is Your Child Safe and Secure…Tips on Car Seats and Booster Seats is the second home safety DVD created by Brampton Fire and Emergency Services. Stephanie's Place Safety Tour, the first DVD, is available at schools, libraries and fire services across Canada. This award-winning DVD helps to further the mandate of Brampton's Fire/Life Safety Education Centre, which is to teach people life-saving skills to protect the entire family.
